BYGEARS is a journal of things made well: watches, cars, places, tables, buildings, books, music and clothes. It is written in English and Arabic, for readers across the Arab world and for anyone who shares their curiosity.
We are interested in how things are made and why they last. A watch movement assembled by hand, a mud-brick house that stays cool without a machine, a coffee ritual that has outlived empires: each has a story, and we try to tell it carefully.
How we work
Every story is researched from published sources, museum collections and the record. We do not invent quotations, and when we write about a real person we describe what they did, not what we imagine they said.
Photographs are credited under each image. Many come from photographers who share their work freely through Unsplash, Pexels and Wikimedia Commons, and we are grateful to them.
When a story is made with a partner, it is labelled clearly at the top of the page. Partners never see or approve our independent stories before publication.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we want to know. Corrections are made openly, and the date of any significant change is noted on the story.
