Tivoli La Vie Muscat Hotel & Residences has opened in Madinat Al Irfan, a new district of the Omani capital, according to an announcement dated 25 September. Set within the LA VIE development, it is described as Oman’s first hotel on a championship golf course, and it brings Muscat its first Anantara Spa.
The hotel is operated by Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, part of Minor Hotels, and is the brand’s fourth property in the Middle East. It has 79 rooms and suites, a rooftop infinity pool billed as the longest in the capital, and an 18-hole course designed by Paul Thomas and managed by Troon.
The timing suits the city. Muscat is entering its cooler season, which runs roughly from October to April and is the peak period for time outdoors. For weekenders from the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the hotel adds a new kind of stay to the capital: a resort with its own golf course, inside the city.
A Portuguese brand in the Omani capital
Tivoli began in Portugal and is now the luxury brand within Thailand’s Minor Hotels, the group that also owns Anantara. Anantara is already known in Oman for its resort on Jebel Akhdar, high in the Hajar Mountains, and the spa at the new hotel extends that name to the capital.
The hotel’s design is described as modern European with subtle Omani influences, and the announcement also points to Omani craftsmanship. It is a familiar balance for international brands in the Gulf, and in Oman, where traditional crafts remain part of daily life, it is a sensible one.
Most of the 79 rooms look out over the course. There are 15 Superior rooms and 41 Deluxe Golf View rooms of 40 square metres, along with nine Deluxe rooms that have their own terraces on the golf course. The suites comprise ten Junior Golf View Suites of 60 square metres, three One Bedroom Golf View Suites of 66 square metres and a single two-bedroom Presidential Suite of 160 square metres.
The course and the range
The 18-hole championship course was designed by Paul Thomas and is managed by Troon, the golf management company. A championship course is one laid out to the length and standard needed to stage professional tournaments, rather than a short course for casual play. It is the feature that sets the hotel apart. For Muscat, the opening adds something the city has not had before: a hotel set on a championship course.
The hotel also has Oman’s only Toptracer facility. Toptracer is a ball-tracking system used on driving ranges: cameras follow each shot and show its flight and distance on a screen. It makes practice easier to read for serious players, and it turns the range into a game for beginners and families who have never held a club.
For golfers in the Gulf, the cooler months are the playing season. The UAE has long been the region’s best-known golf destination, with courses in Dubai and Abu Dhabi; Muscat now adds a championship course with rooms beside it, which makes a short break simple to arrange.
Spa, pool and tables
The Anantara Spa is open now. Up on the roof, the infinity pool is described as the longest in Muscat, a claim that gives the hotel a second landmark beside its course.
Dining begins with two restaurants. S O L É serves Mediterranean food, and SEEN by Olivier da Costa offers rooftop dining; it is the first SEEN in the Middle East. Two more names are due later in 2026: Benihana, the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant, where chefs cook at a hot iron grill set into the table, and The Coffee Club for all-day dining.
Room for Gulf gatherings
The hotel has been planned with large occasions in mind. The Juman Ballroom holds up to 520 guests and has an HD screen measuring 18 by 7 metres, a scale that suits weddings and family celebrations of the size common across the Gulf.
That matters in a region where a wedding guest list can run into the hundreds. Muscat is a short flight from most Gulf capitals and within driving distance of the UAE, which makes a hotel of this kind a practical choice for events that bring relatives together from several countries.
What comes next
The hotel is open now, with the spa, the rooftop pool, the course and two restaurants in place. Benihana and The Coffee Club are scheduled to follow before the end of 2026. Muscat’s cooler season runs until around April, which gives the hotel a full first winter to find its place.
The hotel sits within the wider LA VIE development in Madinat Al Irfan. For travellers in the region, the simplest reading is this: Muscat now has a city hotel where a round of golf, a spa afternoon and a rooftop dinner can all happen without leaving the grounds, just as the weather turns in their favour.
